Originally used for bringing cooked rice out to the fields and for storing rice and other perishables. Particularly valued as they are good at keeping out pests! They are made by first constructing a bamboo frame basket and this is painstakingly covered in layers of laquer. Finally they are hand-painted and decorated. These pieces are just fantastic and always attract attention with their unusual looks and origins. You can simply use them as an ornament or by moving the lid to one side by loosening the strap, place displays of dried grasses and flowers in them.
